On December 29, 2017, Executive Order 9,257 was published postponing the term for rural property owners request the enrollment in the Rural Environmental Register (Cadastro Ambiental Rural – “CAR”) to May 31, 2018.

The CAR was created by the ”New Forestry Code” (Law 12,651 as of 2012) and is a mandatory registration for all owners of Brazilian rural properties. The deadline has been postponed for the fourth time since 2014.

The enrollment in CAR is essential to allow the implementation of the plans for the regularization of properties with environmental liabilities in Permanent Preservation Areas (“Áreas de Preservação Permanente – APPs”) and in areas of Legal Reserve (“Reserva Legal”), by means of the accession to the Environmental Regularization Program (“Programa de Regularização Ambiental – PRA”).
